A note on the SSL certificate warning
Wednesday, 27 August 2008

This site uses SSL encryption (which requires a security certificate) to send log in information and to view content only accessible to registered users.  It is used to provide a secure connection, rather than to verify our identity, so we use our own self-signed certificate.

Most browsers do not automatically accept self-signed certificates and will likely show a warning telling you that our certificate is not trusted (a trusted certificate is one provided by a commerical provider).

When this occurs, your can add AuroraWatch.ca (hosted on our machine seabird.physics.ualberta.ca) manually by selecting 'add exception' on FireFox, or 'Proceed to website' in Internet Explorer.
